Easy Amigurumi Bee Tutorial – Free Pattern

A cute and quick project for all seasons! This little bee is one of those projects you just can’t resist.

It’s quick, perfect for beginners, and makes a lovely handmade gift or desk buddy.

• Level: beginner

Materials: What You’ll Need to Make the Amigurumi Bee

• Acrylic yarn category LIGHT (3) (yellow, black, and white).
• DK cotton yarn category FINE (2) (yellow, black, and white).
• 11 / C-2 (2.75 mm) crochet hook for cotton yarn
• 4/E-9 (3,5 mm) crochet hook for acrylic yarn.
• Stitch marker
• Fiberfill stuffing
• Scissors
• Tapestry needle

Body and Head (in one piece)

The body is the bee’s main part. Using yellow and black yarn, begin with a magic ring and work single crochets in a circle.

1. Alternate the colors to create the classic yellow and black stripes.
2. Continue crocheting in rounds, increasing and then decreasing stitches to shape the body into an oval.
3. Don’t forget to stuff the bee before closing it completely.

• Round 1: 6 SC in MR (6)
• Round 2: INC x6 (12)
• Round 3: [ SC, INC ] x6 (18)
• Round 4: 1 SC, INC, [ 2 SC, INC ] x5, 1 SC (24)
• Round 5: [ 3 SC, INC ] x6 (30)

Add the Iconic Stripes—The Classic Yellow and Black Touch

The bee’s stripes are what make it unique. Use black yarn to crochet uniform bands between the yellow sections.

For a clean color change, carry the unused yarn along the back of the work to avoid visible threads.

• Rounds 6-8: 1 SC in each st (30×3)
• Rounds 9-10: switch to black 1 SC around (30×2)
• Rounds 11-13: switch to yellow 1 SC around (30×3)
• Rounds 14-15: switch to black 1 SC around (30×2)
• Rounds 16-19: switch to yellow 1 SC around (30×3)
• Round 20: [3 SC, DEC] x6 (24)
• Round 21: 1 SC, DEC, [2 SC, DEC] x5, 1 SC (18)
  • Stuff the body
• Round 22: [1 SC, DEC] x6 (12)
• Round 23: DEC x6 (6)

Wings (make 2)

The bee’s wings are made with soft white yarn, preferably cotton, for a delicate effect.

Work single crochets in a teardrop or circular shape, then sew them carefully onto the top of the body.

• Round 1: 6 SC in MR (6)
• Round 2: INC x6 (12)
• Round 3: [1 SC, INC ] x6 (18)
• Round 4: 1 SC, INC, [2 SC, INC] x5, 1 SC (24)
• Round 5: INC, 4 SC, INC (8)

Fasten off, leave a long tail. Fold slightly and sew on both sides of the bee’s back.

Antennae (optional)

Cut a short piece of black yarn. Fold in half and stitch or tie it to the top of the bee’s head. Trim to desired length.

Or you can make a chain:

1. Chain 9, then work 1 slip stitch (SL ST) in each chain starting from the 2nd chain from the hook.
2. Chain 9 again, and repeat the process with slip stitches on this chain.
3. Work 1 SL ST between the two chains and fasten off.
4. Leave a long tail to sew the antennae onto the bee’s body.

Bee’s Stinger (optional)

Use black yarn and follow the pattern below:

1. Work in rounds (insert pattern instructions here).
2. Fasten off with 1 SL ST, leaving a long tail to sew the stinger onto the back of the bee’s body.

Use black yarn and follow the pattern down here:

• Round 1: MR, 3 SC (3)
• Rounds 2-3: 1 SC around (3×2)
• Round 4: 3 INC (6)
• Round 5: 6 INC (12)

Close with 1 SL ST, cut the yarn leaving a long tail, and sew the sting on the back side of the amigurumi bee.
