Easy tutorial to crochet a jellyfish kawaii style with amigurumi technique.

If you are an amigurumi lover and you like recreate marine subjects, in this post I show you how to crochet jellyfish with sweet eyes, smile and a pretty ribbon, in classic kawaii style!

Useful information before starting

  • Wroking time: about 1 hour
  • Skill level: 🌸 easy

The jellyfish amigurumi is worked in continous round, so you’ll need a stitch marker to mark the last stitch and to move on each round.

You’ll start crochetting the head with decorative fans and then you’ll make a circle with all tentacles that you’ll sew on the bottom of the head.

The final size you’ll reach is 8,5 cm, if you use the suggested yarn.

  • 🧶 50 gr TRE SFERE FIOCCO 100% cotton category yarn FINE (2) in the following colors: lilac (7418), peach color (7271) and some black thread (7555)
  • Crochet hook 3 mm
  • Stuffing
  • Stitch marker

  • MR = magic ring
  • CH = chain
  • SC = single crochet
  • SL ST = slip stitch
  • INC = increase (2 SC in the same stitch)
  • DEC = decrease (SC 2 together)
  • HDC = half double crochet
  • DC = double crochet
  • REP * = repeat from * to * all around (if not indicated)

🌸 STEP 1 – basic circle with tentacles

Use lilac yarn color.

Cut the yarn and hook it in the 4th round.

Make 16 CHs and work from the 3rd CH from hook 1 SC and in the next CH’s too.

Reach the base of the circle and make 1 SC. Repeat the CHs and SC in each CHs. Work 8 tentacles.

🌸 STEP 2 – jellyfish’s head

Work another circle and follow the basic circle pattern till the 5th round, then follow the pattern down here:

7-121 SC in each stitches around36×6

🧵Assembling of the parts

Before joyining the parts, insert the security eyes, embroider the smiley mouth and the eyelashes in each side of the eyes.

Now join the tentacles on the head working SC all around in the stitches of the two parts.

Do not close completely, but leave a little space to insert some stuffing inside.

Once join the parts crochet with FAN STITCH all around

Before making the next step, make a wide loop to hang the jellyfish, if you want to make a room decorative ornament.

🌸 STEP 3 – Jellyfish’s ribbon

1Make 16 CHs, 1 HDC in the 3rd CH from hook and in the next CHs. Join in ring with 1 SL ST.14:48

Fasten off, cut the yarn and leave a long tail, wrap the yarn around the middle of the stripe and sew it on the head.

Use the same yarn to embroider the cheek under the eyes.
