Crochet Dove Amigurumi (Doudou Lovey) + Easter Meaning

Dove amigurumi english tutorial

This project was born from a creative collaboration:
the crochet dove amigurumi was made by Giulia from Giulia Pinky Time,
while the star-shaped doudou blanket was created by Silvia Torcolacci.

The reflection on the meaning of Easter is by Annalisa Martinelli.

The crochet dove amigurumi doudou lovey we are going to make in this tutorial is part of a special Easter project: a sweet baby lovey made of a star-shaped blanket and a soft little dove.

In this article, I will guide you through making the dove, while in the video you will also find the blanket created by Silvia Torcolacci.

🕊️ Easter โ€“ reflections on its meaning

Do you know the origin of the word Easter?

It comes from the Greek โ€œPaschaโ€, which in turn derives from the Aramaic โ€œPasahโ€, meaning โ€œto pass overโ€.

The term dates back to the Jewish celebration of the Exodus, when the Jewish people left Egypt and journeyed toward the Promised Land. Moses led his people from slavery to freedom, crossing the Red Sea and beginning a path toward a new life.

For the Jewish tradition, Easter symbolizes a journey home โ€” a path that we can see as a metaphor for the human journey toward the home of the heart.

For Christians, Easter represents the passion, death, and resurrection of Christ, which occurred three days after his passing.

(Reflection by Annalisa Martinelli)

Using white cotton yarn, start with a magic ring.

  • Round 1: MR make 1 CH (do not count as 1st SC) and work 6 SC inside the ring (6)
  • Round 2: INC in each stitches around (12)
  • Round 3: * INC, 1 SC *; REP * 6 times (18)
  • Round 4: * INC, 2 SC *; REP * 6 times (24)
  • Rounds 5-8: 1 SC in each stitches around (24×4)
  • Round 9: 7 SC, * 1 SC, DEC *; REP * 3 times, 8 SC (21)

A central fold will form โ€” this is where you will later sew the beak. Insert the safety eyes on the sides.
Place the eyes between round 6 and 7, leaving 5โ€“6 stitches between them.

Step 2 – Body

  • Rounds 10-11: 1 SC in each stitches around (21×2)
  • Round 12: 8 SC, * 1 SC, INC*; REP * 3 times, 7 SC (24)

  • Round 23: *3 SC, INC *; REP * 2 times, 5 SC, *DEC, 1 SC *; REP * 6 times, 5 SC, * 3 SC, INC *, REP *2 times (42)
  • Round 24: 1 SC in each stitches around (42)

  • Round 27: *2 SC, DEC *; REP * 7 times (21)
  • Round 28: *1 SC, DEC *; REP * 7 times (14)
  • Round 29: 7 DEC (7)

Add stuffing when you reach round 28, pushing it first into the head and then into the body.
Make a slip stitch in the next stitch, cut the yarn leaving a long tail (about 10 cm), and use it to close the opening.

Step 3 – Wing (make 2)
