A crocheted hook holder is an incredibly useful accessory for crochet lovers – it keeps your hooks and stitch markers organized, preventing them from getting lost.
Follow this step-by-step tutorial to create your own customized crochet hook holder!
Before you begin
Before starting, make sure you have all the necessary materials on hand. In this tutorial, we’ll use a round base and work a simple stitch to create the cylindrical structure.
The central section allows you to insert stitch markers, adding both practicality and style to the project.

To make the hook holder, I used a cardboard cylinder that I recycled from an empty yarn spool.
Its dimensions, which will be the same as the final piece, are 5,5 cm in height and 26 cm in circumference.
Materials needed:
- Yarn 50 gr of medium weight cotton (ideal for a sturdy but soft accessory)
- I used PIC NIC by Miss Tricot Filati in Lilac (color code 12)
- 3,5 mm crochet hook, suitable for the chosen yarn
- Stitch markers, to decorate and keep your work tidy
- Tapestry needle, for weaving in ends
- Cardboard cylinder
- Scissor
Basic Circular Instructions
- Circular Base: Start by crocheting a circular base with single crochet until you reach the desired diameter. Gradually increase with even increases to achieve a flat, round shape.
To cover the cardboard cylinder I recycled from an empty yarn spool, I crocheted a circle with a total of 54 single crochets.
- Round 1: MR, 6 SC (6)
- Round 2: 6 INC (12)
- Round 3: *1 SC, INC *; REP * 6 times (18)
- Round 4: 1 SC, INC *2 SC, INC *; REP * 5 times, 1 SC (24)
- Round 5: * 3 SC, INC *; REP * 6 times (30)
- Round 6: 2 SC, INC * 4 SC, INC *; REP * 5 times, 2 SC (36)
- Round 7: * 5 SC, INC *; REP * 6 times (42)
- Round 8: 3 SC, INC, * 6 SC, INC *; REP * 5 times, 3 SC (48)
- Round 9: * 7 SC, INC *; REP * 6 times (54)
Holder body instructions
- Hook holder body: Once you’ve created the base, start crocheting upward without any increases.
- Rounds 10-14 Back Loop Only Single Crochet: Work 5 rounds without increases, working only in the back loop.
- Rounds 15-19 Regular or Crossed Single Crochet: Work in the next 5 rounds without increases, working in both loop with either regular or crossed single crochet.
- Rounds 20-23 Stitch Marker Insert: Work the next 4 rounds in the back loop only. Here you can insert your stitch markers.
- Rounds 24-27: Regular or Crossed Single Crochet: Work the next 4 rounds with regular or crossed single crochet, without increases and working in both loops.
- Round 28 Upper border: Finish with a round of crab stitch to define the edge and give structure to the holder.
