In this tutorial, I show you how to crochet a small simple Santa sack ornament to decorate your Christmas tree or to combine with an amigurumi.
This project you can finish in about 1 hour and I suggest you to work with a glitter yarn to give an elegance touch.
Used yarn and accessories to crochet a sack

I used:
- 50 gr mercerized cotton yarn ICE YARNS brown color
- 20 gr metallic polyester acrylic ORO MONDIAL red color
- Crochet hook size 3 mm
- scissor
- stitchmarker
- needle
- Polystyrene ball 17 cm circumference

Other recommended yarns: try doing it with the golden cord, the result will be a much bigger and more robust sack than the one proposed in the tutorial.
Cotton, wool and acrylic are ideal for this bag if you want a softer finish.
Depending on the yarn you choose, you will need to adjust the crochet hook size.

📜 Tutorial crochet sack
The Santa Sack is to crochet in continuos round, without closing with a slip stitch at the end of each round.
Use a stitch marker to mark the first or the last stitch of the round and move it.
To give the shape, I used a polystyrene ball about 17 cm in circumference.
Follow the table down here to start with a circle.
ROUND | INSTRUCTION | TOT |
---|---|---|
1 | MR, 6 SC | 6 |
2 | 6 INC | 12 |
3 | * 1 SC, INC *; REP * 6 times | 18 |
4 | 1 SC, INC ; * 2 SC, INC *; REP * 5 times, 1 SC | 24 |

18 | 2 SC, DEC; *4 SC, DEC*; REP * 5 times, 2 SC insert the styrofoam ball. | 30 |
19 | 1 SC in each stitches around | 30 |
20 | * 3 SC, DEC *; REP * 6 times | 24 |
21 | 1 SC in each stitches around | 24 |
22 | 1 SC, DEC; *2 SC, DEC *; REP * 5 times, 1 SC | 18 |
23 | 1 SC in each stitches around | 18 |
24 | * 1 SC, DEC *; REP * 6 times | 12 |
25 | 1 SC in each stitches around | 12 |
26 | 2 CHs (= 1st HDC), 1 HDC in the base of the CH and 2 HDC in each stitches around. Close with 1 SL ST in the 2nd beginning CH. | 24 |
Cut the yarn and hide it. Now take a contrasting colour, better if “glittered”, like the red one I chose to make the string. Make 90 CHs, fasten them and then cut the thread leaving a long end of about 20 cm.
Knot the string made between the 25th and 26th round and form a bow. Stitch the ends of the string together and then, with the same thread, run over the top back of the bag to form a loop, so you can hang it on the branch of the Christmas tree. Watch the video to see how.
