If you use the suggested yarn, you’ll create a seashell size of about 10 cm
Crochet Scallop seashell instruction
- CH = chain
- SC = single crochet
- SLST = slip stitch
- HDC = half double crochet
- DC = double crochet
- INC = Increase, 2 SC in the same stitch
- DEC = Decrease, 2 SC together
- DEC of DC = decrease of double crochet (DC2 TOGETHER)
- BLO = Back loop only
- REP * = repeat from * to * until the end of the row
Work in rows, and start each row with 1 turning chain.
- ROW 1: Start with 10 CHs. Work 1 SL ST from the 2nd CH from the hook and in the next stitches. (9)
- ROW 2: BLO 5 HDC, 3 DC, 2 DC in the last stitch. (10)
- ROW 3: 1 SL ST in each stitches of the row (10)
- ROW 4: BLO 6 HDC, 3 DC, 2 DC in the last stitch (11)
- ROW 5: 1 SL ST in each stitches of the row (11)
- ROW 6: BLO 7 HDC, 3 DC, 2 DC in the last stitch (12)

Community Inspiration
This creative version of the crochet scallop seashell shows how easily the original pattern can be adapted with a simple modification. Instead of making a single shell, two identical shells were crocheted, joined together with a round of single crochet around the edge, and lightly stuffed before being fully closed.
The result is a thicker, sturdier, and more three-dimensional shell, making it perfect as a table decoration, wedding favor, place setting, or coastal-themed home décor.
This beautiful variation was created by Lynne on Ravelry. To achieve a three-dimensional effect, she crocheted two shell pieces, joined them together with a round of single crochet, and lightly stuffed them before closing.
She used the finished shell as a table decoration for her niece’s wedding, inspired by Brittany, France, alongside an oyster, a bicycle, and the French flag.
