In this tutorial, I show you how to crochet a starfish.

The Summer is coming and in this period is easy to have marine’s subject idea to crochet!

So, today, I want to share with you this easy tutorial to crochet a starfish! Are you ready? Take your crochet hook and start!

Used yarn and accessories

Filato Fiocco Tre Sfere color corallo / Fiocco Tre Sfere yarn coral color
  • 50 gr Tre Sfere FIOCCO 100% cotton FINE (2) coral color code 7320
  • Crochet hook size 3 mm
  • Needle
  • Stitch marker
  • Stuff
  • Scissor
  • Black and rose embroidery yarn

If you choose the same yarn I used, you’ll finish with a starfish of size 16.5 cm.

Useful information before starting

📗 Abbreviations & meanings (US terms)

  • MR = magic ring
  • CH = chain
  • SC = single crochet
  • SLST = slip stitch
  • INC = Increase, 2 SC in the same stitch
  • DEC = Decrease, 2 SC together
  • REP * = repeat from * to * until the end of the row

You start to crochet a circle and then the 5 point to crochet to row back and return.

You’ll create two stars, and you have to crochet both together and stuffing inside to recreate the 2D effect.

Crochet pattern star point

Follow the pattern here below to make the start point. At the end of each row, work 1 Turning chain

Repeat the upper pattern to make the 2nd star point.

Before starting the 3rd star’s point, make 2 SC and then follow the upper pattern, 2 SC and follow the pattern again to make the 4th star’s point. In total, you have to work 5 points.

Assembly information

Unisci le stelle con la maglia bassa / unite the stars with SC.

Crochet two stars with the same color or with another, then put both together and make a single crochet union all around.

Embroider the eyes and mouth on one of the worked star, before sewing together, so you can hide the yarn inside.

Imbottisci prima le punte e poi il centro della stella / stuff hte point of the sea star and than the center

Leave some stitches at the end of the round to have a hole to insert some stuffing.

Stuff the point and the middle of the stars.

You have now completed your 2D crochet starfish!

You can use it as decoration for clothing, bags or household items.
